Hey, has anyone heard any future news of talks coming to CDMA phones? In Oct or Nov. This would be brilliant!

I haven't heard anything about that yet, I've kind of been curious about that myself. Where did you hear of this?

I wish, but I am forced to switch to Cingular to get access to Talks. Verizon is better.

I heard a brief mention of it on the lg blind users email list.

I'm about to show my stupidity by asking what a CDMA phone is.

Post 7 by Jesse (Hmm!) on Friday, 04-Aug-2006 17:13:19

CDMA stands for Code Division Multiple Access, as. It is the type of data system that Verizon Wireless, and Sprint PCS emply. GSM is another system, used by Cingular, T-Mobile, and most other cellular providers in the world today.

i thought there were some GSM/CDMA phones that supported talks. They aren't sold in the US though.

Those phones are WCDMA, which is another standard.

GSM phones are better than CDMA because they provide better coverage most of the time.
They also allow you to rome on other networks when they're is no coverage provided by that company.
Some people go so far as to say it sounds beter too though with the exception of sprint I don't really buy that.
They also work around computer's and I heard of CDMA phones that don't.
Cingular and T-Mobile are also better companies because they offer the most for you minutes.

Hmmm, the gsm phones are the ones that go weird around some computer equipment. I guess I should say sometimes the equiptment. Lol, a friend everytime she was on her work phone and her cell was near, the work phone had this odd buzzing noise. I'm going to stick with verizon for now, their coverage is the best I've found. We just finished a cross country roadtrip, and the only state a had some reception problems was Montana. Even that was only for 60 miles or so. I've heard good things about Altell, because they have roaming rights with verizon. I've thought of them; they have some greats plans!

Code Factory just recently announced the release of Mobile Speak Smart Phone. Most of the major companies (Verizon, Cingular, T-Mobile, ETC.) have smart phones that this product will work with. Yeah, we as blind people shouldn't be forced to switch phone networks just because one has an accessible option.

Cingular sadly doesn't have the coverage I need. I leave big cities, and it isn't even well placed in most of the midwest yet. My whole family lives in Cingular and T-mobiles zone of no return, or at least no on network service. So I stay with Sprint, and pray an accessible phone comes soon, or maybe swith to Verizon, but same deal.

I temporarily switched to Singular myself close to a year ago due to the fact that I wanted an accessible phone as well, and Nextel doesn't seem to have one that's totally accessible to me, and had the same trouble. Although I loved the fact that I now had a completely accessible phone, people were constantly complaining that they couldn't understand me half the time, and that I sounded garbled, so I just decided enough was enough, cancled my plan, and sent it back.
Luckily I hadn't cancled my service with Nextel, so I've now been using them eversince then, and don't forsee myself switching to anything else simply because I love the service I have with them. I just wish Accessibility were more of a priority with them as it seems to be for some of these other carriers, because I like others have mentioned don't really want to switch carriers and have service I'm not satisfied with just to have a more accessible phone.

when I clicked on this topic, I was expecting it to be news worthy, but it doesn't seem to really bringing any news to light, only rumor. So, since it doesn't look really news worthy, I think that I'll move it to "let's talk".
